That’s notable because it runs counter to older guidance that broadly cautioned against any manufacturer switch.

Switching from a brand-name product to a generic, or the reverse, is less settled. Levothyroxine has a narrow therapeutic index, meaning small formulation differences can shift your hormone levels more than they would with most medications.
A claims-database study found that switching from brand to generic was associated with higher total healthcare costs after the switch, not lower.
Professional groups, including the American Thyroid Association, recommend a follow-up blood test after any manufacturer change, generic or brand.
